Estimated Number of Deaths Prevented Through Increased Physical Activity Among US Adults

Source: JAMA Internal Medicine

Examines the association of physical activity and mortality in a population-based sample of US adults and estimates that approximately 110,000 deaths per year could be prevented if adults aged 40 to 85 years or older increased their moderate-to-vigorous physical activity intensity by a small amount (ie, 10 minutes per day). The findings support implementing evidence-based strategies to improve physical activity to potentially reduce deaths.
