Austin, TX: Vision Zero Nets Fewer Crashes

Reports that in Austin, crashes resulting in deaths or serious injuries at six roadways where Vision Zero safety improvements were completed fell 17% from the annual average for 2017-19 (pre-pandemic traffic statistics). At downtown intersections where leading pedestrian intervals were added to signal cycles, crashes where car drivers turning left hit walkers fell 54%, compared to a 36% drop at unimproved intersections.
