"Understanding why collisions between vehicles and pedestrians occur is one factor in improving pedestrian safety and creating pleasant walking environments. This report identifies common vehicle pedestrian collision types. The data in the report will provide valuable information to planners, traffic engineers, safety education professionals, law enforcement, walking advocates, and others addressing pedestrian problem areas.

"This report provides data on pedestrian collisions in the State of Washington for the six-year period from 1990 through 1995. The report provides three types of pedestrian collision information:

  1. General information on pedestrian collisions by year, month, day of week, weather conditions, and other factors.
  2. The second part of the report classifies pedestrian collisions into 24 categories.
  3. The final part of the report shows pedestrian collisions types for each of Washington's 39 counties."
